SUMMARY:Macbeth
DESCRIPTION:This contemporary reimagining is a thrilling theatrical experience for students in Years 7 – 11\, offering a powerful introduction to Shakespeare’s language\, themes\, and dramatic form. \nSet in a world where ambition overrides morality and power corrupts absolutely\, an unexpected prophecy sends a national war hero and his brilliant wife as they spiral into a fever-dream for control. Shakespeare’s haunting tragedy combines Scottish and English history with Greek myth\, revealing a world where double-speak reigns\, violence is seductive\, and loyalty is a rare and precious thing. \nThis muscular\, modern production speaks directly to today’s students\, exploring the cost of ambition\, the fragility of conscience\, and the consequences of sacrificing humanity for personal gain. In an age obsessed with fame and influence\, Macbeth asks what happens when nature itself begins to fight back? \nSport for Jove’s Macbeth is boldly imaginative and true to the text\, filled with striking visuals\, rich performances\, and engaging revelations. It’s a fantastic introduction to Shakespeare for young people.

SUMMARY:Phar Lap
DESCRIPTION:The musical that stops the nation \nNot just another absurdist\, electro-swing musical comedy about a thoroughbred racehorse\, Phar Lap is a rags-to-riches story with a big heart. If you’re thinking elaborate life-size puppetry and dazzling special effects\, you couldn’t be more wrong (we don’t have the budget). Suspend your disbelief as an actor swaps his horseshoes for tap shoes to play one of Australia’s most beloved icons. \nWhen an awkward\, gangly horse from New Zealand meets a hapless\, down-on-his-luck\, trainer\, they embark on a classic underdog story to win the Melbourne Cup\, and Australians’ hearts and minds. The road isn’t easy – there are gambling scandals\, double-crosses\, an attempted shooting\, and a career-threatening addiction to sugar. It’s high stakes\, high drama\, and highly historically accurate. \nPhar Lap boasts an irresistible electro-swing score\, with inspirations from Duke Ellington to Daft Punk. Brassy\, lively and retro – these songs will take you from the race course to the rave hall. \nPop the champagne\, harness up\, and get ready for a wild ride.

SUMMARY:Art From Behind The Wire
DESCRIPTION:Art From Behind the Wire is a new exhibition featuring posters\, magazines and other printed material created by Second World War prisoners of war\, including Major John Champion de Crespigny. \nJohn was among thousands of Australians made prisoners by the Japanese in the early months of 1942. Captivity at the hands of the Japanese is remembered for merciless brutality however the initial experience in some camps was not harsh. To maintain the morale of the inmates\, Champion de Crespigny and others made posters and produced a magazine\, Mark Time\, during their time as POWs in Java. \nThis extraordinary collection offers a glimpse into the uncertainties of life as captives of a cruel and unpredictable enemy. \nThe exhibition also includes four sketches of the Japanese war crimes trials held on Morotai in December 1945\, drawn by Signalman Alex King\, a talented professional newspaper artist. King served with the Australian Corps of Signals and was able to observe some of the trials firsthand. \nThese unique original sketches capture the moment when Japanese soldiers attended makeshift courts sitting in the witness chair. They offer a rare insight into both the trial process and the individuals accused of war crimes.

SUMMARY:The Glass Menagerie
DESCRIPTION:Inspired by his own turbulent life\, Tennessee Williams’ timeless portrait of a shattered family is one of the most iconic dramas of the 20th century. \nAmanda Wingfield can’t help but dream of the past — a long-gone adolescence of lavish parties and high society suitors. But her present is anything but dazzling. Living in squalor with her two adult children Tom and Laura\, the bills are piling up and pressure to secure the Wingfield family’s future is swelling. Will a gentleman caller be the answer to their problems?

SUMMARY:Songs of First Desire
DESCRIPTION:This is a superb new play of passion\, history and politics\, intimate in its detail and epic in its storytelling. \nCamelia is losing her grip\, lost between the past and the present as she passes her days in the garden of her Madrid home. Her children employ Alejandro\, a Colombian migrant\, to look after her. But this house isn’t what it seems\, keeping the terrible secrets of history in its stones. As Alejandro’s presence begins to unlock the past\, it shakes a family that has buried its pain – and its country’s – for too long. \nThis is a dazzling piece of writing. Set in 1968 and the present\, it unpicks the instincts that drive individuals and whole societies towards fear and violence – and perhaps\, also\, reconciliation.

SUMMARY:In A Nutshell: The Poetry of Violence
DESCRIPTION:Whether you are new to Shakespeare\, or an aficionado\, you will be entertained\, enriched\, and inspired by this production. \nWhen Shakespeare explores violence it is often epic and cruel\, but never gratuitous. Whether it’s Brutus considering a justification for murder in Julius Caesar\, or Volumnia relishing the bravery and brutality of her warrior son in Coriolanus\, Shakespeare asks questions about our relationship with violence. But he also uses the word to describe the limits of emotion\, and the rashness provoked by love and hate.
