SUMMARY:Meow Meow's The Red Shoes
DESCRIPTION:Dance we will and dance we must. \nFrom a chorus of hairy fawns to singing swans and showgirl stars\, experience an unforgettable\, frenetic song-and-dance into meaning. A musical celebration that will shock you out of stagnancy and into ecstatic oblivion from “the queen of chanson” (Berliner Zeitung) with “devilish funny bones and heavenly vocal chords” (Evening Standard UK)\, Meow Meow. \nHaving wowed New York’s Carnegie Hall\, the world-renowned creator behind Meow Meow’s Little Match Girl and Meow Meow’s Little Mermaid now urgently remedies The Red Shoes. This fairytale by Hans Christian Andersen brutally punished its covetous protagonist with an ever-dancing curse that propelled her far from heaven’s gates. Meow Meow asks: what if she could never start dancing at all? Can we save her? Can we save the world?! \nLeave in love with life again. \nRemember why you wanted to dance in the first place.

SUMMARY:Art From Behind The Wire
DESCRIPTION:Art From Behind the Wire is a new exhibition featuring posters\, magazines and other printed material created by Second World War prisoners of war\, including Major John Champion de Crespigny. \nJohn was among thousands of Australians made prisoners by the Japanese in the early months of 1942. Captivity at the hands of the Japanese is remembered for merciless brutality however the initial experience in some camps was not harsh. To maintain the morale of the inmates\, Champion de Crespigny and others made posters and produced a magazine\, Mark Time\, during their time as POWs in Java. \nThis extraordinary collection offers a glimpse into the uncertainties of life as captives of a cruel and unpredictable enemy. \nThe exhibition also includes four sketches of the Japanese war crimes trials held on Morotai in December 1945\, drawn by Signalman Alex King\, a talented professional newspaper artist. King served with the Australian Corps of Signals and was able to observe some of the trials firsthand. \nThese unique original sketches capture the moment when Japanese soldiers attended makeshift courts sitting in the witness chair. They offer a rare insight into both the trial process and the individuals accused of war crimes.

SUMMARY:Eureka Day
DESCRIPTION:Screamingly funny and wildly topical\, Eureka Day lasers in on the poverty of modern discourse and our inability to listen to those with whom we disagree. \nIt’s 2019 and Eureka Day\, a private primary school in Berkeley\, California\, is a bastion of progressive ideals: representation\, gender identity\, social justice. The parents on the Executive Committee value inclusion above all else – until a mumps outbreak forces a rethink of the school’s liberal vaccine policy. As cases rise and polite debate descends into ideological warfare\, the school leadership are forced to confront one of our era’s defining questions: How do you build consensus\, when no one can agree on the facts?

SUMMARY:Happy Days
DESCRIPTION:Somewhere in a dreamlike wasteland\, Winnie is buried up to her waist in a mound of earth. The sun beats down on her\, relentlessly. She is unable to see her husband Willie (a man of few words)\, who she chatters to and prompts for affection and approval. Undaunted\, she continues to celebrate each happy day. \nWritten in the poetic\, distilled and brilliant style that crowned Beckett the greatest dramatist of his day\, Happy Days is a play about the power of the human spirit when faced with impossible circumstances. In the hands of two legends of Australian theatre-making\, this new production will plumb the original depths of Beckett’s script while exploring the play’s haunting and inspiring contemporary resonances. Happy Days is a grand night of theatre that no one will want to miss.

SUMMARY:Songs of First Desire
DESCRIPTION:This is a superb new play of passion\, history and politics\, intimate in its detail and epic in its storytelling. \nCamelia is losing her grip\, lost between the past and the present as she passes her days in the garden of her Madrid home. Her children employ Alejandro\, a Colombian migrant\, to look after her. But this house isn’t what it seems\, keeping the terrible secrets of history in its stones. As Alejandro’s presence begins to unlock the past\, it shakes a family that has buried its pain – and its country’s – for too long. \nThis is a dazzling piece of writing. Set in 1968 and the present\, it unpicks the instincts that drive individuals and whole societies towards fear and violence – and perhaps\, also\, reconciliation.
