SUMMARY:The Dictionary Of Lost Words
DESCRIPTION:Discover the secret power of words\nIt’s 1886 and the very first edition of the Oxford English Dictionary is being compiled. Four-year-old Esme Nicoll has a front row seat. Well\, she’s hiding under the sorting table\, anyway. As her father and his male colleagues decide which words stay and which go\, Esme collects the discarded (often gendered) scraps to compile her own far more radical\, far more magical dictionary.\nA sweeping historical tale in the spirit of The Harp in the South\, The Dictionary of Lost Words follows Esme from her childhood in the 1880s\, into adulthood at the height of the women’s suffrage movement and the beginning of the First World War.

SUMMARY:The Memory of Water
DESCRIPTION:Mary\, Catherine and Teresa are sisters who share a common past. A world of disputed bicycles\, midnight ice-cream sodas\, cocktail dresses and their Mum’s perfumed advice. A seaside childhood punctuated by the odd monosyllable from Dad.  Where does reality end and family mythology begin?  Why has sibling war broken out in their Mother’s bedroom?  Why are past recollections still so with us?  THE MEMORY OF WATER takes a new look at the age-old traditions of recollecting family stories. A beautiful bittersweet comedy\, bound by sisterly love\, anger\, tears and of course laughter.

SUMMARY:Venus and Adonis
DESCRIPTION:It’s 1593. Theatres are closed\, players out of work\, houses bolted\, people terrified by the touch of another’s skin\, the breath of another’s air.  Shakespeare\, syphilitic and dangerously bored\, publishes a scandalous response to the pestilence—an epic work about the very things lost to us\, like intimacy\, identity\, and the erotic freedom of touch. His searing poem\, Venus and Adonis\, rips and tears at the founding myth of why human beings are cursed to love each other\, in every form—him and her\, her-as-him\, him-as-her\, love as equal and unequal\, obscenely arousing and utterly destructive.

SUMMARY:Lady Day At Emerson's Bar & Grill
DESCRIPTION:It’s 1959\, in a bar in South Philadelphia. It’s a bit rundown. DESCRIPTION:Hilarious\, naughty and Wilde\nAlgernon Moncrieff and Jack Worthing are two best friends who are both living double lives. In the city they’re playboys with a libertine reputation\, but in the country they assume pious alter egos to get away from it all. SUMMARY:The Weekend
DESCRIPTION:A sophisticated new adaptation of Charlotte Wood’s bestselling novel of friendship and the wisdom of age. \n“People went on about death bringing friends together\, but it wasn’t true…” \nFour women have known each other for decades\, and have a friendship that goes with it – good-humoured\, caring\, and forthright when required. But Sylvie has died\, and when the remaining three come together to pack up her beach house\, they find maybe they haven’t been as honest – or as good friends – as they thought. \nAdele\, a once-well-known actress\, Wendy\, a high-profile academic\, and Jude\, who ran one of the city’s most celebrated restaurants\, learn things they should have learned years ago. There’s a difference between growing old\, and growing wise. \nAnd at the heart of it all\, an old dog keeps them company\, silently bearing witness to the folly of age\, and the warmth of true friendship.

SUMMARY:Romeo and Juliet
DESCRIPTION:Our production takes on the spirit of a filthy Italian opera\, driven by love and heat\, fights and fevers of the mind\, and of course\, by Shakespeare’s soaring poetry. We are carried to backcountry Verona\, a profoundly insular town\, trapped in cycles of tradition and vendetta\, staring out at the future with moral pollution at its heart. Only its children’s courage to express themselves will bring change. SUMMARY:Adam Linder: Hustle Harder
DESCRIPTION:The internationally acclaimed Australian choreographer Adam Linder will present a performance exhibition devised for the MCA Macgregor Gallery. Linder makes work for both the stage and gallery spaces\, often riffing on the histories and social codes that underpin these different contexts. Curated by Anneke Jaspers\, Linder’s new commission for the MCA will focus on the museum as a space in which visitors increasingly perform for the camera\, using art as a backdrop for their own image making. A cast of dancers will perform for the duration of the museum’s opening hours over a month-long period\, hustling for attention with other works in the exhibition space.

SUMMARY:On The Beach
DESCRIPTION:Two of our great theatre-makers join forces for this poetic story of community\, dignity and love in dark times.\nA small group of friends in Melbourne – some local\, some survivors from the US Navy – are living out their eerily prosaic lives and loves in the wake of World War III. But when a mysterious distress call rings out across the Pacific Ocean\, the characters are called to choose between duty to the ones they love and duty to the human race.

SUMMARY:Miss Peony
DESCRIPTION:A comedy of beauty pageants\, unrealistic expectation and the business of family.\nLily’s grandmother was a beauty queen back in Hong Kong. She doesn’t care that times have changed\, that Lily lives in a new country and a new century. She sees a granddaughter caught between worlds. So Poh Poh pushes Lily into entering the highly competitive Miss Peony\, and no matter how hard Lily tries to wriggle out of it\, her grandma won’t take no for an answer. \nAnd to make matters worse\, she’s a ghost. \nGlitzy and madcap\, Miss Peony is a bold new comedy about our good old need for connection – to family\, the past\, the future\, each other. \nAnd for the first time ever we’re offering a show in three languages: as in real life\, these characters switch between English\, Cantonese and Mandarin\, so the show is surtitled in all three.
